1. If your hydrant is leaking from the nozzle when off, it is typically caused by one of the following:

• The plunger may be worn or damaged and needs replacing.

• When closing the handle, if you do not hear a “snap” sound, you may need to adjust the linkage. 

• If it's recently installed, your valve seat may contain debris. In this case, the hydrant casing will have to be flushed out, and the operating pipe will need to be taken off. 

1. If leaking occurs underneath the handle by the brass stem:

• Tightening the packing nut will usually make the leaking stop.

1. If the level below-ground leaks while the hydrant is turned on:

• A drain hole leak could be the culprit if the leak is small.

• If it is a larger leak, its cause could be electrolytic corrosion which can cause a hole in the pipe casing. The pipe casing close to the valve body may prematurely fail due to certain soil conditions. It is advised to use brass pipes in these circumstances. 1. If the hydrant is not fully draining while turned off:

• Ensure the hose is free of any attachments.

• Make sure the linkage adjustment has the correct amount of tension.

• A clogged or blocked drain hole or a poor drain field could be the cause of your hydrant not draining properly.​​
